Ween are one of those acts where if they decide they're going to completely change direction, make an album of a particular genre then it's likely to be the best of that genre you'll hear all year. There wasn't a better country album released in 1996 than '12 Golden Country Greats', as they tackled America's genre in the most Ween'esque way as the band hired some of the finest Nashville players around to back the bluegrass rock of 'Help Me Scrape the Mucus off My Brain' or the tangy country classic 'P Up A Rope'. This deluxe edition features the album repressed once again on vinyl with loads of extras. 

Of all the adventurous things the rock band known as Ween has done over their career, recording a straight-up country album with legendary Nashville session musicians was probably the most surprising.
 
Their fans were already used to albums filled with a variety of eclectic stylistic changes, but staying in one genre for an entire record and abandoning their previous DIY recording methods was a big change even some Ween fans had a little trouble with. However, over time, 12 Golden Country Greats has become an important and beloved part of the band's history.
 
There was that great moment in the '60s where everybody went to Nashville to record, whether it was Bob Dylan, or Leonard Cohen, etc. 12 Golden Country Greats is one of those records. Nobody did that in 1996; an alternative rock act going to Nashville to record an album at the legendary Bradley’s Barn.
 
Ween did, though…
 
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of 12 Golden Country Greats, Rhino is remastering the original 1996 album alongside a bonus album collecting previously unreleased demos and rare B-sides and outtakes.
