Flowers At Your Feet x 300: Olive Green Vinyl LP
BD308Label: Big Dada
Release Date: 12th May
Bouncing off her 'Sun Songs' EP Rahill's doing that seemingly impossible task of blending jazz, hip hop, psyche, folk and soul music it not being a clunky overly referenced mess where the artist is lost in their influences. Beck with a feature and a production credit on this, that greatness only works with greatness.
For those who dig: Psychedelic Art Folk Hip Hop Soul.
Based in upstate New York, Rahill Jamalifard is a multidisciplinary artist working within numerous overlapping musico-poetic traditions. Her creative practice includes songwriting, as well as portraiture, DJing (both radio and live), and a more private pursuit of literature. Informed by her upbringing in a diasporic Iranian-American household, as well as her lifelong, genre-spanning musical explorations, Rahill’s forthcoming solo releases constitute, at once, a natural progression of—and departure from—her work with the seminal NYC psych-rock outfit, Habibi, which she co-founded in early twenty-teens.
Rahill’s songs occupy a familiar, contemplative mode—blending jazz, trip/hip-hop, and folk traditions spanning east and west.
Among the extensive list of talented players who have contributed their time and talent to Flowers At Your Feet, “Fables” features no less than art-pop revolutionary Beck, on vocals and as a producer. The track will also be accompanied by a music video starring both artists and Iranian-American actress Medalion Rahimi (NCIS: New Orleans).
Rahill has garnered fans and co-signs from the likes of Beck, Michael Imperioli (Sopranos), BadBadNotGood, NTS, Dev Hynes, Egon (Now/Again), Zidane (Soccer Player), Vans (Brand), Aaron Frazier, Alex Epton (producer for FKA Twigs, Jamie xx, Vampire Weekend etc.), Academy Records, Chinatown Soccer Club and MoMA PS1.
Rahill recently performed several new to-be-released songs as well as her cover of EP track "Haenim" that she sung in Farsi for the Iranian American designer Maryam Nassir Zadeh's SS23 show for New York Fashion Week. Heavily championed by NTS Radio Rahill features in a monthly show selecting medlies of picks from her record collection, rooted in US jazz, with soul, folk and international sounds.
