This Is The Kit have always had a pleasing sound, a soft and pillowy folk, toasty with it's jazz, rhythms and melodies knitting into each other, it's lovely stuff but on album 7 I'm excited to hear the band open up their sound with some spikey driving alt-rock... it's all very lovely still.

This Is The Kit's forthcoming seventh studio album ‘Ghost
Coat’, scheduled for release on 15th January 2027, marks
an important new chapter for in thie history. Recorded at the
legendary Rockfield Studios, it is the first album in the band’s
career to be self-produced, giving bandleader Kate Stables
and her long-standing collaborators full creative control over
the sound and direction of the record.
Once again working with the band’s trusted core line up
consisting of Rozi Plain, Neil Smith and Jamie Whitby Cole,
friendship and community are at the heart of the record,
manifesting itself with the voices and contributions of
collaborators including Richard Dawson Sam Amidon,
guitarist brothers Valentin and Marceau Portron (of Portron
Portron Lopez), Ben Howard and Emma Broughton
AKA Blumi.
Ghost Coat Kit steps into new sonic and emotional territory
spanning spectral folk, hypnagogic lyricism and even 90’s-
tinged slacker rock. The result is a confident, expansive body
of work which builds on the band’s celebrated songwriting
and musicianship, while presenting their most fully realised
artistic statement to date.
