Yusef was a player who felt very much in touch with the movement of world, with an ability to touch one's soul by playing the sax, oboe or any variety of flutes, his influences well travelled but his ideas further reaching. This is an unreal record, it's the avant garde meets classic jazz standards but also packs a funk.

This excellent 1965 album from the always versatile Yusef Lateef runs the gamut musically, from the Coltrane influenced “Semi-Octo” to soulful reads of standards from Hammerstein/Kern, Fats Waller and Erik Satie, and a beautifully rendered original ‘Bamboo Flute Blues’.
