This post-bop/free-jazz album should be held among the classics, and with a band feature Wayne Shorter, Herbie, Cecil McBee and Anthony Williams it certainly has the players to be held as one of the most ambitious experimental records from Blue Note. 'Gnostic' is an eery, sinister unknown like getting used to a new city at night but it reveals itself to have comfort and familiarity as it progresses, 'Thandiwa' is just sublime Blue Note post-bop, 'The Twins' is free-jazz majesty with touches of African rhythms and on 'Nomadic' Grachan lets drummer Tony Williams go nuts and he really does.

Following his excellent 1963 debut Evolution, trombonist Grachan Moncur III ventured even deeper into experimental waters on 1964’s Some Other Stuff, a boldly avant-garde album featuring Moncur with a cohort of fellow explorers including Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Cecil McBee, and Tony Williams. This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
