MJK (as we shall now call him) released two slow build classics in the early-70s, noted for their sonic kinship and message of Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On'. He finds himself in 20s with what may be the breakout soul album of the year, his voice stronger than ever albeit finely weathered, his message still steadfast strong and impassioned with The Monophonics playing like an elite gospel soul and funk unit befitting the great 60s and 70s soul labels.

Following the 2025 release of lead single "Glowin'," Mike James Kirkland returns with his long-awaited full-length album, The Business. Finnigan also arranges the romantic "Leading Lady," while joining Kirkland on background vocals for the tender
"Remembering Our Love."
The midtempo title track “The Business” turns its attention to social issues, pairing fl owing strings with lyrics addressing systemic injustice and police
oppression. In contrast, "Joyriding" captures the carefree spirit of summer with an uplifting groove that ranks among the album's highlights.
Well-received single "Glowin'," closes the album.
