Matt Maltese is dead good at songs, just naturally good at making them but you know what? I wanna know what makes his songwriting tick, what inspires him, what he'd do with those inspirations and how he'd reinterpret them? Well, wonder no more, he's done a covers album lead by the perennial 90s rom com banger 'Kiss Me'.
Matt Maltese returns with a new album of covers titled Songs That Aren’t Mine, dropping on 8th March 2024. Kiss Me, originally made famous by Sixpence None The Richer, is the first single from the album and the record features songs from a diverse cast of musical
inspirations.
Maltese’s new interpretations coincide with a Spring 2024 world tour, his biggest to date, which kicks off in Leeds on 13th Feb and takes in 14 countries across the planet. This includes sold out headline shows at Brixton Electric in London and The Wiltern in Los Angeles and performances at festivals such as Bonnaroo, Rock Werchter and Vida Fest.
Maltese says “‘Songs That Aren’t Mine’ is an album of all my favourite songs since childhood, recorded at home with friends last year. In the early part of last summer, I reconnected with the first producer I ever worked with – Alex Burey - and we started playing around with versions of other people’s songs for fun. It started off as a kind of escape from the album- writing cycles my life is often shaped by, and then of course we took it too far and made a whole album. There was something very satisfying about approaching songs I hadn’t written with the same attention arrangement/production wise as I do my own songs. It felt like both an expression of myself but also a homage to others.”
