Bands like Garden Variety are not supposed to be the biggest bands in the world but they're very much supposed to be the biggest and most important band in your world. They're a chip off the Replacements, Hüsker Dü, Mudhoney and Pixies block, post-hardcore, melodic but not Emo, hook-laden punk but absolutely not pop punk. Could be my favourite new old band. 

The 1993 split point between pop punk and emo is no better illustrated than by
Garden Variety’s self-titled debut. While Billy and Bivouac flirted with the mainstream, this Long Island trio proposed at the post-hardcore prom. Muscular octave guitar chug with a side of late night zine work at the local diner. Backbeat heartbreak, hold the FX. Thank Charles Maggio for your favorite record next time you see him at the Paramus mall.
