mark williams lewis music, at least to these ears presents a kind of neo-gothic-sophistipop recalling the studious blend of folk, soul and pop ala The Blue Nile as the great American songwriters are held in the same stylistic regard as Motown greats. Mark' (mark's) sound pulls more in from the contemporary sounds of woozy electronica, slowcore and dream pop with the modern experimentation of the likes of Destroyer, King Krule, bar italia and Dean Blunt. The signifying sound is his hushed baritone, satisfyingly sweet and smoky with a harmonica sound that sounds like it's cutting through the smog of the city.
