For decades Shintaro Sakamoto has been one of the great practictioners of the Japanese concept Shuhari whereby they master an art and discipline, break the rules and then transcend them to make it something new. It's something Shintaro does on every record and his latest 'Yoo-Hoo' is no different as he moulds blues, mood kayō, 1960s soul, surf instrumentals, and funk into his own image. 

Sakamoto is a Japanese composer, producer, writer and singer based in Tokyo. He began his career in 1989 as a member of the acclaimed psych/rock band Yura Yura Teikoku, where he played guitar and sang over the course 21 years releasing 10 LPs. His highly anticipated new album Yoo-hoo is has been released digitally on January 23, 2026 via Zelone Records, and is set to be released on July 31 on LP. Sakamoto previewed the album in autumn with his third U.S. tour along with performances in Mexico City.

Yoo-hoo, Sakamoto’s first new album since 2022, reflects his recent live experiences abroad while showcasing a diverse range of sounds, including blues, mood kayō, 1960s soul, surf instrumentals, and funk.
